About Us

ABOUT OUR JOURNEY IN TIME

Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering (Fr. CRCE) is a promontory autonomous institution with NAAC accredited grade A. It is located on the waterfront in the heart of Mumbai and is one of the most prestigious private engineering colleges. Our autonomy synergizes a great opportunity to design and implement a curriculum sensitive to the needs of learners, Indian society, and industries. The Institute dedicates itself to transforming engineering education through its unique approach to continuous advancements in technology and holistic development. Stepping into education with an orphanage (Bal-Bhavan) and a trade school in carpentry, the Agnel Ashram (set up in 1957 at Bandra, Mumbai) has today deep-dyed a full-fledged technical complex. The Institute today, proudly bears the founder’s name as a fitting tribute to his impassioned faith in highly qualified and fully trained engineers and technicians in the service of the nation.

The Institute started with only one programme in Production Engineering in 1984 with an intake capacity of 60 students. In 1987, the programme in Electronics Engineering started with an intake capacity of 60 students, followed by Computer Engineering in 1991 with an intake capacity of 60 students. In 2001, the programme in Information Technology commenced with an intake capacity of 30 students, which was later increased to 60 in 2010. The college started offering a Master’s Degree in Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in the year 2005, each having an intake capacity of 18. Doctoral programs in Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering commenced in 2014 and 2015, respectively. From the year 2019, a new undergraduate degree programme in Mechanical Engineering started with an intake capacity of 60. Also, the BE undergraduate programme in Electronics Engineering has been changed to Electronics and Computer Science. The undergraduate programme in Information Technology has been merged with Computer Engineering. From the year 2020, the college is offering a new undergraduate programme in the emerging area of ‘AI and Data Science’. Additionally, the Doctoral program in Computer Engineering started in the year 2023. Major surveys such as TOI, INDIA TODAY, Career 360, The Week, and Education World consistently rank the Institute highly. NIRF ranked the college in 2017 and 2020. Based on the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) parameters and criteria, three programmes (Computer, Electronics and Production Engineering) of the institute have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA-India) since 2017-2018. The college is also NAAC accredited with a grade ‘A’. Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering achieved autonomous status from the academic year 2024-25. The University Grant Commission, vide letter No. F. 2-10/2023(AC-Policy) dated 23rd Nov 2023, conferred the autonomous status to Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering, Fr. Agnel Ashram, Bandstand, Bandra (West), Mumbai 400050, affiliated to the University of Mumbai for a period of 10 years from the academic year 2024-2025 to 2033-2034 as per clause 7.5 of the UGC (Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023.

From the year 2024-25 under autonomy, we have four courses with a total intake of 360 students. The branch specificities include – Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering. We also offer an M.Tech Degree Course in Computer Engineering with an intake of 18 seats.

The Government of Maharashtra has also directed autonomous colleges to revise their curriculum in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 through the Government Resolution dated 4th July 2023. We pledge to effectively implement the UGC Regulations and NEP 2020, adhering to its spirit. We are pleased to offer our holistic curriculum for 2024-28, which is based on recent recommendations from the GR and is known as the “H-Tree Model” of Engineering Education. A unique “H-Tree Model” of Engineering Education Curriculum is carefully designed to systematically develop the IQ (Intelligence Quotient), PQ (Physical Quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient), and SQ (Spiritual Quotient) of a learner. This curriculum aims to develop an all-rounded personality with a holistic approach to education in which the learner receives equally teacher-led learning, peer learning, self-learning, and experiential learning. The curriculum model is outcome based and focuses on learning by doing. The curriculum is designed to provide multiple learning opportunities for students to acquire and demonstrate competencies for rewarding careers. It ensures multiple choices for learners acquiring skills through systematic planning. It has seven verticals aligned to GR recommendations with a strong science and mathematics foundation and program core, a sequel of electives, Multidisciplinary Minor courses, humanities & management courses, and sufficient experiential learning through projects and semester-long industry/research internships, along with employable skill-based courses. Learners get an opportunity to acquire skills through NSDC aligned courses during summer vacations. The learner also gets an additional option to choose the kind of degree, i.e., Honors, Double Minor, or Honors with Research.

Various measures are taken to recast the teaching-learning process to make learning a joyful experience for students. This curriculum will certainly make the academic standards craned skywards with the active involvement and cooperation from all the stakeholders.

From Director's Desk

Fr.Valerian D'Souza
Today ‘s Global Education scenario is changing rapidly. Science and Technology are forging ahead in order to provide a world-class Education and sophisticated life to human beings all over the world. We stand at a unique moment in time and we should understand these challenges that lie ahead of us. With technical education at an inflection point, we must strive to equip technocrats of tomorrow with the competence, ability, and character to address emerging global business and social challenges.
Technological, corporate & social expectation changes, intense competition has made technical education very dynamic and unpredictable. With Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization World is getting more and more integrated and also globalized. Even technical education today is also energized continuously by powerful forces of change such as developments in science and technology. The work of Today's engineer is not restricted to manage only his/her product or service and market. Rather he/she has a large responsibility to assume the role of an organizational leader in such environments which is extremely challenging but rewarding as well. Such leaders in today's environment need to acquire specialized knowledge, skills, and attitudes so as to have a cutting edge advantage over their competitors.
In this context, we at CRCE design our teaching-learning pedagogy with the belief that today's engineers need to inculcate in themselves an analytical orientation to understand and analyze complex technical situations while at the same time possess an action orientation and an administrative point of view.
Our track records of Admissions, Training & Placements speak volumes of our credibility in the global market. We ensure affordable quality technical education at all levels.
I welcome you to navigate through our website to learn more about the Institute and its activities.
