Course Theme:

Electronic commerce, commonly known as eCommerce consists of the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. Ecommerce is simply business in the online environment.

With the revenue of more than $250 billion in the US alone as of 2009, ecommerce is growing rapidly with the help of Internet. It has provided a virtual main street for a quick and convenient way of exchanging goods and services, both regionally and globally. Today, e-commerce has grown into a huge industry with consumer-driven (B2C) online transactions impacting industries from travel services to consumer electronics, from books and media distribution to sports & fitness.

Since its inception ecommerce has changed in many ways. With Internet coming along the way, ecommerce has met with widespread acceptance. Ecommerce websites are one of the most advanced and diverse web based application to be built now a days. With new programming languages like PHP, Java, etc the ecommerce platform is taken to a whole new level. It covers many features of web based programming such as Encryption, Data Security etc.

Ecommerce platforms helped in developing new payment mechanisms, online services, and new encryption methods based on cryptography, which were not present in the past. Ecommerce technology enables a business to easily reach across geographic boundaries. It’s the next front for any future business.

The aim of this course is to understand almost all the aspects of ecommerce, from its concept to its technology, from its reach to its benefits in the simplest possible manner with illustrated examples.

Course Structure:

The course consists of two major components. Lectures and lab sessions on E-commerce and PHP programming. The lab sessions will demonstrate payment gateways and applications of PHP programming. Lab sessions will provide an opportunity to the participants to verify the concepts presented in the lectures.
